Sunday, October 12 Discovering Buddhism - Samsara and Nirvana - Session 3 - by Venerable Tenzin Namjong
This is the ninth module of the Discovering Buddhism course. The module will help students to investigate what 'samsara' is, how we are stuck in it and also what 'nirvana' is and how to achieve it. Students will learn how to develop the determination to be free from suffering and empower themselves with practical tools to deal with and eliminate disturbing emotions forever. The other main topics that will be covered in this module are the different types of sufferings, wheel of life or the 12 links, the types of delusions and their various aspects and explanations on 'Nirvana' and 'Enlightenment'.
Discovering Buddhism is an estimated 2 year course for which the students may receive a certificate of completion upon fulfillment of all requirements. This program is not designed as an academic study of Buddhism but is intended to change your life. So all are welcome to participate in this program regardless of certification interest and knowledge of Buddhism. The teachings will include guided meditation, introductory level explanations and more in-depth explanations on how to apply Buddha's teachings into everyday life.
Venerable Tenzin Namjong is a senior monk studying for Geshe (PhD in Buddhist Studies) degree at Sera Je Monastic University near Mysore.
